After 2 years of planning and research fueled by a need to help parents everywhere prevent heatstroke deaths caused by leaving children in an unattended vehicle, Baby OK-a social enterprise, announces the app is now in development and will be launched in the Spring 2017.
The app’s focus will be to act as an accountability partner to the parent and will serve as a preventative measure. The app will also communicate between parents and other caregivers to ensure that the child has reached his or her destination safely and has been removed from the vehicle. “This will offer parents the peace of mind when it comes to their child’s safety in the car, especially when the child is driven by someone else,” says Eryn Vargo, founder and creator of Baby OK.
Heatstroke can be devastating for parents of young children and most of the time happens when there is a change in routine or schedule. Currently, there are no viable technological solutions for this problem. On average, 37 children per year die from heatstroke as a result of being left in a vehicle and to date in 2016, 39 children have died. Many new parents are told to leave a physical reminder on the dashboard such as a stuffed animal or to put their bag or briefcase in the back seat with the child. Baby OK offers a better solution using smartphones, technology, and science about accountability to save parents from a potentially tragic outcome.
“Our mission at Baby OK is to reduce the statistics of infant and child mortality from heatstroke by creating a new habit for parents, grandparents and caregivers & offering peace of mind for parents by acting as an accountability partner”, says Vargo. She adds, “We want to be the leader when it comes to preventative practices of saving children's lives from heatstroke & increasing peace of mind for parents everywhere by being accessible to people from all walks of life.”
Baby OK also wants people to get involved in joining the modern day parenting revolution. They have many opportunities for involvement:
