Who leaves their kid in a car?

Seriously, who could possibly leave their kid in a car?

How can a loving parent that cares so much about the wellbeing of their child accidentally leave them in a car?

How can a bus driver or a nanny do this, it is their job- right?

Why would a parent make this careless mistake? They must be terrible parents, right?

WRONG.

ANYONE can make this tragic mistake. The most loving and caring parents can make this mistake. A doctor, a lawyer, a nurse, can make this mistake. A babysitter, a grandmother, a teacher, can make this mistake. None of us are immune to the possibility of accidentally leaving our child in the car.

In fact, 55% of all child vehicular heatstroke deaths are an accident....a child forgotten in the car. Maybe it was a change the daily routine. Maybe it was sleep deprivation. Just maybe the parent was distracted with the insane lives we lead and really just forgot....maybe they had a death in the family recently and were consumed with grief that they completely forgot....maybe they got laid off and are growing in debt and literally forgot.

It CAN happen. It DOES happen. It IS happening. ALL. TOO. OFTEN. To date this year, we are at 18 deaths. Yes, some were intentional (we are not even going down that road right now), but most are accidents.

It is time that all of those that are holier than thou out there, ridiculing and screaming at the rest of us HUMANS, realize that they are also very capable of making this mistake.

Instead of shouting from the rooftops that all of these mistakes are at the hands of "bad parenting", lets focus on the fact that this is a huge problem and lets work together to solve this problem. Innocent babies do not need to suffer and die. We can fix this issue.

Baby OK can fix this issue. If Baby OK was a mandated app on every smart phone, then the emergency contact would be notified (with a location pin) that the child was left in the car and within minutes the child could be rescued. MINUTES count when it comes to saving a life from heatstroke.

Do you know how fast the temperature in a car rises? Every minute counts.

How fast does a car heat up?

Knowledge and awareness are power when it comes to preventing this. Until our app is live, be aware of a child in the car...leave a reminder to yourself. And PLEASE do not ever leave a child in a car to "run in for a minute".

If you see a child alone in a car, call 911, take a picture and then get the child out!

Help us spread the word about Baby OK. It takes a village.
