If you want to save yourself some money and KNOW for sure that your veggies and fruit are getting clean, make your own fruit & veggie wash! It is super simple and very effective {and WAY cheaper than the store bought versions}!

To make your own fruit & veggie wash, you need a few things:
3/4 cup of white vinegar
20-30 drops of lemon essential oil (I LOVE YLO)
1/4 cup of water
What to do:
Pour your ingredients into a glass spray bottle, and voila, you're done!
My favorite glass spray bottle is from Grove Collaborative, you can get it here AND by using my link you'll also get a FREE Mrs. Meyer's 5-piece set!
How much to use:
I put the apples, avocados, cucumber, carrots, celery, lemons etc. in a big bowl and spray the hell out of them with my wash. (give the wash a shake before you spray it)
Then I let the spray sit on the fruit and veggies for a minute or so.
From there, I fill the bowl with water and let them soak for about 5-10 minutes.
I literally wash EVERY fruit and veggie we buy. Every. Single. Piece.
Keep it near the sink, we go through a bottle every week or two! To make life even simpler, when I get home from the grocery store, I wash, prep and store all of the fruit and veggies.
This takes me about 2 hours total, but, I don't have to do any wash or prep while I'm trying to cook!! #winning at life with this trick! I swear it is so nice to be able to grab clean, cut veggies for dinner prep (you'll thank me later!)

For an extra layer of protection on berries, we soak them in baking soda water after their fruit & veggie wash bath. Just add about a tablespoon or 2 (depending on how many berries you have) into a bowl, add the berries and water and let them soak for 5-10 minutes.
Why do I do this?
If you follow the EWG Dirty Dozen | Clean Fifteen list, and you can't afford organic, this is a good method for cleaning because there are pesticides on our produce that can cause:
Cancer
Neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and ALS
Birth defects
Reproductive disorders
Asthma
COPD
and more

Hope this was helpful!
