Focus on these 4 areas for Mental/Emotional Wellness

During this crazy time in our lives, focus on our mental and emotional wellness is crucial to navigating this "new normal". Mental and emotional wellness inspires self-care, relaxation, stress reduction and the development of inner strength, while having the ability to acknowledge feelings of stress, anger and fear. Addressing the stressors and fear and dealing with them head on are the best ways to tackle this. Here are 4 areas to be intentional about when it comes to your mental/emotional wellness.

Focus on these 4 areas to strengthen your mental and emotional wellness:

  • Sleep

  • Intentions

  • Breathing

  • Mindset

Why these 4 things?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ SLEEP

Sleep deprivation is literally the ONE thing that has an affect on every single area of life. Better sleep (or more) can drastically improve everything. I usually get 6-7 hours of sleep every night, but with a nursing baby, sometimes my sleep is interrupted 5 times, so good REM (deep) sleep is lacking. Short sleepers (people that get less than 6 hours) are at risk for obesity, insulin resistance, infection and mood disorders (to name a few). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀ INTENTIONS

Setting intentions with a measurable, actionable purposeful plan that inspires action is the only way that I can actually get shit done. To say you are going to do it and to have a plan to achieve it are 2 totally different things. I write my goals and make a daily priority list. I make the plan and outline the steps that it will take to get there. I try to break it down into small bite size pieces so it actually gets done. It works. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BREATHING

I am a shallow breather. I have very low (90/60) blood pressure. I've been told by DR's that I need to breathe DEEPER breaths and to FOCUS on my breathing. It started at red lights and now I have a breathing system that I practice throughout the day. Until you actually pay attention to your breathing, you won't really realize how it can affect your body. I had shoulder pain and constant pain in my chest....then I learned that shallow breathing puts pressure on your heart and doesn't allow your diaphragm to expand and your lungs to fill up. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ MINDSET

Positivity breeds positivity. And vice versa. Like thoughts attract like thoughts. And vice versa. Understanding the power of our thoughts is crucial to our mindset and is key to controlling the wandering mind. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

If you have read some of my other posts, you can see that I have lots of ways to make it easy to focus on your wellness:

Being intentional and making mental and emotional wellness a priority compliments all of the above ways to boost your overall wellness.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Navigating this "new normal" has taken a toll on me...I am sure it has taken a toll on pretty much everyone. (Last night I only slept 4 hours. 😖)

Focusing on these 4 areas are a compliment to The S.A.N.E. Method so I can calm my nerves and improve my mental and emotional wellness.⠀

My main focus right now is sleep!!!

Everything takes focus, dedication and intention.

Some days are harder than others. I am just trying to share things that help me overcome some of the struggles that I face. If you have other methods that work, please share!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
