Updated: Jul 6, 2019

Like us moms really need a reason to drink coffee other than #momlife. But it is good to know that there are some other potential health benefits to that daily cup(s) of joe!

Coffee is MY LIFE! I cannot even imagine a day without it.

I look forward to the smell while it is brewing, the first hot sip every morning.

And the afternoon pick me up that I have almost every day!

I was happy to learn that there are some MAJOR perks to drinking coffee!

Why Coffee Is Good For You!

1. It can fight depression and make you happier

Depression is a very serious mental disorder that is not talked about nearly enough. Depression causes a reduced quality of life and can even lead to suicide, another mental disorder that needs more attention. A study of 208,424 individuals found that those who drank 4+ cups per day were 53% less likely to die by suicide. Depression has become very common...According to Our World Data, 322 million people worldwide live with depression. In a 2011 Harvard study, women who drank 4+ cups of coffee per day had a 20% lower risk of becoming depressed!!

2. It can make you smarter

According to Science Direct, after you drink coffee, the caffeine is absorbed into your bloodstream and from there, it travels to your brain. It appears that caffeine increases alertness, boosts energy, and makes us feel good.

3. It contains essential nutrients & is the biggest source of antioxidants in the Western Diet

According to Nutrition Data, a single cup of coffee contains:

Riboflavin (vitamin B2): 11% of the Reference Daily Intake (RDI).

Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5): 6% of the RDI.

Manganese and potassium: 3% of the RDI.

Magnesium and niacin (vitamin B3): 2% of the RDI.

When we consume 4+ cups a day, these nutrients add up quickly!!!

4. It may lower your risk of some health issues:

5. It may protect you from Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia

Alzheimer's disease is the most common neurodegenerative disease and the leading cause of dementia worldwide. My Granddaddy just passed from this horrific disease in early October. I have started doing a lot of research on it. I am happy to see that coffee drinkers have up to a 65% lower risk of Alzheimer's disease that leads to Dementia.
